Studio Discovery TourLabor Day weekend & the weekend after

I was born in the north of England and learned to knit as a child. It seemed that almost everyone at that time was taught to knit and sew; they were considered basic life skills. In 1968 I moved to the United States, I first lived in Connecticut then moved out to California. In 1984 I retired from my full-time work with Levi Strauss & Co. to take care of my two daughters. In 1986 I began to take knitting seriously and formed my business, Caila Handknits. All of my garments are knit by hand. I rarely make the exact same garment twice, although there are styles I love and I play with different colors, yarns and stitches within that style. In the mid 80's I decided I needed some smaller items to sell so I took classes in silk flower making and began making and decorating pot pourri sachets. I again enjoy the experience of so many colors and textures. I use high quality materials and ribbons, mostly silk, in all of my work and it is all done by hand. I will often add beading, which is very time consuming but beautiful. I have a BA in Personnel and Organizational Behavior. I worked with Levi Strauss & Co for ten years and prior to that in banking. I am now an Administrative Coordinator at Tone, a Pilates Exercise studio in Santa Rosa.
