| Kirby Leary has
made her home in the majestic redwood forest of Mendocino County for
nearly thirty years. For the last 25 of those years, she has had a
romance with clay. She began her passionate exploration of the
medium with porcelain, hand-sculpting and costuming character dolls
-- all with "Old World" charm. After finding homes for nearly 5,000
of her dolls, she desired to branch out. Today, her expanded line
includes stoneware vessels, three-dimensional wall art, masks, and
plaques.
|
She combines various techniques (sculpting,
wheel-throwing, and slip-casting) to create one-of-a-kind, fanciful works -- all hand-painted
with great care and love.
|
Of late, she has completed several
earthenware tile murals, drawing inspiration from Renaissance tapestries, paintings, and pottery.
