I enjoy working with different textures and colors; there are so
many wonderful fibers now available that it really is fun to knit!
I was born in the north of England
and learned to knit as a child. It seemed that almost everyone I
knew was taught to knit and sew; they were considered basic
life skills. In 1968 I moved to the United States
and in 1976 I began to take knitting seriously and formed my
business, Caila Handknits. All of my garments are knit by hand;
I once tried machine knitting but found I did not like the
product or the experience.

I rarely make the exact same garment twice. There are some
styles I have gotten attached to over the years so I try making
them in a variety of fibers and colors.
In the mid 80’s I decided I needed some smaller items to sell so
I took classes in silk flower making and then pot pourri
sachets. I loved it! Again, so many colors and textures. I
changed my business name to Caila Handknits and Sachets and now
make a variety of both items. I use high quality fibers,
materials and ribbons in all of my work and it is all done by
hand. Recently I have added beading, time consuming but beautiful.
