Born and raised in
Germany, Ursula Jones came to California in 1976 and in 1995
moved to Sea Ranch. That is when her active involvement with art
began.
|
She started out learning Native American-style pottery with a local
teacher and participated in numerous workshops with renowned Pueblo
artists in New Mexico. After a weekend class of pastel painting, she
discovered the tactile pleasure of putting colors on paper. Since then,
she has won numerous awards in Art in the Redwoods, both for her pastels
and her clay sculptures.
For the "Chair Affaire", a 2004 fund raiser for the Gualala Arts Center,
Ursula made her first driftwood chair - and hasn't stopped since. She
now spends hours searching the local beaches for just the right piece of
wood.
Just recently, she started painting with oils. Some of her small
landscapes will be shown on the Studio Tour, together with driftwood
chairs, benches and small tables.
Commissions for driftwood chairs and benches are welcome.
