My work is all about transformation and impermanence - of the material, the artist, and hopefully the viewer. My art has been informed by the work of David Nash, Ana Mendieta, Joseph Beuys and Deborah Butterfield, as well as by Joseph Raffael, who was a mentor and teacher.
Art from diverse cultures and traditions fascinates me. Although a native Californian, I have lived in Berlin and New York City in the past and these were fascinating places to make and experience art. I am especially drawn to the traditions and work of First Nations' artists, to some extent because my father was born on Vancouver Island, where the art of the Khowutzun people is created.
I have graduate degrees in Art and Counseling Psychology. I am also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Life Coach, and have done graduate work in Italian literature, as well. I share life and a home with Tom Eckles, a fine art photographer, whose work can also be seen on this Studio Tour.
